Days 31-34

PTSD Symptom

I am completely exhausted with the PTSD symptom this week, hence very little writing.

I had hoped that the Internal Family Systems session on Tuesday would have helped me overcome the trigger this week. There is a particular person in my week that is triggering the symptom at the moment. I thought I had come up with an avenue that might help me resolve this as the person is not a threat in any way to me and never has been. However, when I saw the person on Thursday I was triggered.

I had felt a little nervous on Thursday as I knew I would see the person. So I meditated and felt more relaxed.

When I got triggered, the symptom was very mild but when I went to sleep on Thursday night I was woken only a couple of hours in with the feeling raging. It was incredibly overwhelming and the rest of the night was very unsettled. I then had a disturbed sleep on Friday night and a very disturbed sleep on Saturday night.

I am pleased with my strength not to turn to alcohol. I can, however, see very clearly why I did use alcohol the first time around with this feeling. It is so overwhelming and nothing seems to help it subside.

I have decided to give EMDR a go. I had originally looked into this type of therapy earlier this year but a therapist I spoke to steered me away from it and towards IFS.

I feel it is time to give it a go since I am being triggered every week once or twice per week and this has been consistent since the mid-end of December and I am becoming very worn out now.

I am committed to maintaining a positive mindset despite fining it very challenging to navigate at times.

Despite meditating, socialising, letting emotions out through tears, training and resting I am still triggered this evening. This is the longest a single trigger episode has lasted since the week I had to stop contact with my ex back in February.

I hope very much that it will subside soon.

Saturday Night

Things that were awesome today:

I loved picking up my new running trainers from the running shop tis morning! I can’t wait to test them out tomorrow!

I enjoyed the outdoor group fitness session and curry afterwards with a group of my clients which was in aid of celebrating my client Sarah’s 5 stone weight loss since November 2020.

Sunday Morning

Things that I am grateful for:

Good friends and my mum for caring and being there through tough times.

Friday Night

Things that were awesome today:

I loved getting my running gait analysed at the local running shop, Run Swindon. The owner was great to chat to and has very similar thoughts on running to my own. The customer service was great, and it was awesome to make this connection.

I really enjoyed meeting a new teenage client today and I look forward to working with him over the coming weeks.

My client Crissie bought me some organic chocolate that is sweetened with honey and no sugar! This was to say thank you for supporting her through lockdown. This was a lovely surprise.

Saturday Morning

Things that I am grateful for:

I am grateful for not drinking alcohol

I am grateful for training

I am grateful for a beautiful early bike ride in the lovely fresh morning air

Thursday Night

Things that were awesome today:

I enjoyed being back in the Studio rather than just working online with clients. There is definitely something missing when you interact with people online. I enjoy working online, but there is something in our biological make up that means in-person interactions are even more fulfilling.

Friday Morning

Things that I am grateful for:

I am grateful to the guided meditations I am currently using which got me through the night last night as the PTSD symptom woke me up with it in full force.

I am grateful for not turning to alcohol.

I am grateful for this blog.
